Thoughtful Lady in Marble on Lawn of Prendergast Library Removes to a New Home After Many Years

Statue to Have Manicure and Marcel Before going to her new resting place

After posing for many years in apparent deep thought over man knows not what, the famous statue on the grounds of the James Prendergast Free Library is moving to new fields for thought. Workmen commenced the task of removing the statue from the lawn in the rear of the library building this morning to the Peterson Monumental works where the lady of marble is to have a manicure and marcel before going to her new home.

It is not definitely known where the famous lady is going, she having refused to divulge her final destination. All that is known is that she is not going to Lake View Cemetery. But, she has been there, that being her original home and birthplace. The statue originally was one of two on the lot of the Prendergast family. Her twin sister is now sojourning in a cemetery at Ripley, having moved there when the local lady was moved to the library grounds.

Little is known as to just what the lady in marble represents. Some believe she is a sister of the famous Thinker, while others do not even dare hazard a guess. But she is a landmark that has graced many games of children who have played on the library lawn. That she is a discreet chaperone no one can doubt for she has never interfered with those who came to spoon in the park across the street or along the library wall.
In her new home she will undoubtedly have plenty to think about of the games in the spring and summer and the cold winds of winter at her former home at the library. If it is any gratification to her she may know that the children, many of whom were none to friendly nor to kind to her, will miss her silent chaperonage.
